Bikini season is right around the corner…are you ready?
You worked on getting that stellar swimsuit body over the winter and are now ready to strut your stuff poolside but what about your bikini? Are you in a blah-bikini rut?
If you are looking to get your bikini couture on point, this year it’s all about European rhinestones.
All you need to breathe new life into your old swimsuits is a handful of rhinestones and fabric glue. It makes no difference if your bikini is last season, once you ramp up that bikini bling you will be completely upgraded to this season’s runway looks.
Choosing Your Rhinestones
Choosing your rhinestones is a great way to personalize your swimsuit look. There are so many options and a variety of ways to replicate your personality through these glamourous stones.
Are you looking for a sophisticated and sexy swimsuit look this season? Feel like the next up and coming Hollywood starlit by applying small silver stones to a solid black swimsuit.
Craving a more bubbly, bold and bright look? Select a variety of different colored rhinestones and create a pattern, spell a word or do whatever your imagination inspires you to do. If you are creating a word or intricate pattern, go with smaller rhinestones which will make it easier to apply. If you are looking for a fun, quick and quirky design, simply apply larger, different shaped rhinestones.
Choosing Your Fabric Glue
Choosing the right glue is extremely important. Not only do you need it to stand up to hours in the sun, water and chlorine, but you need to find glue suitable for bikinis. Simply search for glue that is made specifically for the purpose of adhering to stretchy fabrics. It should also be flexible, stretchable, washable and dry clearly.
Applying European Rhinestones to Your Bikini
Having a plan to put into action will save you the headache later when it comes to the application process. Take a washable marker and make a small dot in the spot where you want the rhinestone to go. If you are a stickler for uniformity, use a ruler to space the rhinestone placement perfectly.
Remember, once the glue is applied, you are pretty much stuck with the outcome. This is why you should make sure the word or pattern is perfectly laid out before you actually begin the application process.
Once your pattern is set, squeeze a small amount of glue on the back of the rhinestone. If you are dealing with tinier rhinestones, you may find that a toothpick is useful for glue application.
Be cautious that you are using the minimum amount of glue possible. If it is overflowing from the sides of the rhinestone it will look unprofessional and sloppy. If you are having a difficult time holding the rhinestones and placing them where you would like to, try using a pair of tweezers for easier placement.
Once you have pressed the rhinestones onto the fabric, it’s time to make sure you allow the glue to set completely before wearing it.
With most glue types, you will need to allow it to dry for around 24 hours before you attempt to wash or wear the bikini. Take your extra rhinestones and place them in a safe spot for easy replacement and repair. If you have enough left over, consider applying them to your flip flops or beach cover up to create a complete look.
